How We Choose

Every boot on this site was selected through the same research-based process. We do not run a physical test lab, so we are upfront here about what “hand-picked” actually means for us and how you should weigh it.

What We Look At

For every category, we start with brands that have an established track record in that specific type of boot — a company known for work boots is evaluated on its work boots, not assumed to be good at western boots too. We look at materials and construction that are typical and proven for the category (full-grain leather versus synthetic uppers, welted versus cemented soles, insulation ratings for winter boots, waterproofing methods for rain and hunting boots), and we cross-reference how a brand’s line is generally regarded by people who actually wear that category of boot day to day.

How We Price-Tier

Every product on this site carries a simple $, $$, or $$$ tier. This reflects roughly where the item sits in its category’s price range at the time we added it, not a quality score — a $ boot can be an excellent, honest choice for its category, and a $$$ boot is not automatically the “best” one. We tier this way so you can filter by budget before reading the description, rather than being nudged toward the most expensive option.

Original Descriptions, Not Marketing Copy

Every description on this site is written by us, in our own words, based on the boot’s specifications, its category’s common use cases, and its general reputation. We do not copy manufacturer or Amazon listing copy. If a description sounds like a plain, specific opinion rather than a sales pitch, that is intentional.

What We Are Not Claiming

We want to be direct about this: we have not personally worn, field-tested, or physically inspected every boot listed here. This is a curated buying guide built from research and category knowledge, not a hands-on test lab review. If a specific fit, break-in period, or durability detail matters to your purchase, check the product’s own listing, recent buyer reviews, and the retailer’s return policy before you buy.

How We Make Money

Order New Boots is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program. When you click a “Shop on Amazon” link and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is disclosed on every page with product links, not just here. It does not influence which brands we choose to feature — our goal is a list you would trust enough to bookmark, not one padded with whatever pays the highest commission.
